I had to mill new gibs to fit and I milled the new ones to fit that space as tight as I could make them while still having free movement. The original gib strips were way too narrow for a decent fit. It is great that you managed to refit your mill with a drive belt system.

Apr 15, 2018· Those of you familiar with the Sieg X1 Mini Mill and its clones will be all too familiar with the awful noisy and very fragile, plastic gears, which shed teeth when the least load is put on them. Having replaced gears regularly since buying my Clarke CMD10 mill, I decided that it was time to convert to belt drive.
The mill is certainly much quieter with the belt drive and the highest speed is useful for small mills (less than 3 mm) whilst the slow speed is good for flycutting. The vee belt also protect the motor from severe overloads since it will slip if the load is excessive.
