Aquatic mosses and sediments were monitored along Topolnitsa River Basin (Bulgaria), copperproducing and mining region. Six mosses were applied as biomonitors: Bryum turbinatum, Fontinalis antipyretica, Leptodictyum riparium, Platyhypnidium riparioides, Rhizomnium punctatum and Sciurohypnum levels were determined for both plants and fine fraction of sediments .

For the first time, the atmospheric deposition of trace elements was investigated in two regions (Cape Winelands and Cape Peninsula) of the Western Cape Province of the Republic of South Africa (RSA) using naturally growing mosses and lichens. A total of 33 elements were determined by epithermal instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA).

Of Moss and Men: Using Moss as a Bioindicator of Toxic Heavy Metals at the City Scale This map is based on moss data from Portland, Oregon, and model output that predicts the presence of cadmium in moss on a 50meter grid. The North Roselawn airquality monitoring station (1) was the city''s one permanent airquality monitoring station in 2013.

Aug 23, 2017· Delicate mosses found on rocks and trees in cities around the world can be used to measure the impact of atmospheric change and could prove a lowcost way to monitor .

In addition, 57% of respondents from the mining sector reported that the most exciting innovation that IoT will bring to the world is improved environmental monitoring. Joe Carr, Director of Mining at Inmarsat Enterprise commented: "Improving environmental monitoring is an area where mining operators clearly see real value in IoT.

Abstract. This article reviews the literatureon the use of mosses for monitoring atmospheric metalpollution. It discusses the nature of mosses, themechanisms for moss uptake of metals from the air andwet precipitation, the various forms in which mossesare used for this purpose, and cases in which mosseshave been used for monitoring local hot spots ofpollution, and regional patterns of metal ...

Africa [23], and North America [24]. However, the monitoring of air quality using mosses in China has lagged behind that in Europe, and only a few studies have been published recently [25–28]. Thus, it would be beneficial to expand the use of mosses as a biomonitoring technique to trace the distribution and sources of heavy metals in China.

Hydraulic mining is a form of mining that uses highpressure jets of water to dislodge rock material or move sediment. In the placer mining of gold or tin, the resulting watersediment slurry is directed through sluice boxes to remove the gold. It is also used in mining kaolin and coal.. Hydraulic mining developed from ancient Roman techniques that used water to excavate soft underground deposits.

Good examples are the use of lichens in the Integrated Monitoring of Natural Environment System and the use of biological material in the quality evaluation of natural waters (Directive 2000/60/EC). Lichens and mosses dominate among organisms used for evaluation of pollution by atmospheric aerosols (Fraenzle and Markert 2007; Markert et al. 2008).

A total of 120 biomonitors consisting of lichen and moss were grown under a controlled environment and later transplanted to the surroundings of each factory for monitoring of air pollutants for 3 months in both wet and dry seasons.

Environmental monitoring describes the processes and activities that need to take place to characterize and monitor the quality of the environment. Environmental monitoring is used in the preparation of environmental impact assessments, as well as in many circumstances in which human activities carry a risk of harmful effects on the natural environment.

Jun 14, 2016· The benefits are related to the simplicity of the sampling, the accumulation level of heavy metals and the use of cheaper equipment, in such a way that the biomonitoring by means of the mosses species Leskea angustata and Fabronia ciliaris is a viable procedure for the evaluation of environmental pollution in the MATV.

Air Pollution Study in the Republic of Moldova Using Moss ... Environmental pollution is one of the largest problems the ... were compared with data from the European moss biomonitoring program ...

Aug 31, 2015· Monitoring air pollutants via plants is an economic, convenient and credible method compared with the traditional ways. Plants show different damage symptoms to different air pollutants, which can be used to determine the species of air pollutants. .

proposes an overview on the role of satellite remote sensing in environmental impact assessment. The article points out how modern technology specific to remote sensing can be used in environmental impact assessment, impact caused of urban development, mining and changes that appeared due to the human factor or natural factors.
